Get the HELP for YOU, NOT anyone Else.
Help is Healing.
Over the past couple weeks many celebrities are coming out and choosing to be vulnerable by stating how they have been dealing with a mental illness. Recently, Lady Gaga was doing an interview on the Today Show and disclosed how during her talk at Ali Forney Center, a New York City shelter for LGBT homeless youth she stated:
“I told the kids today, ‘I suffer from PTSD.’ I’ve never told anyone that before,” Gaga said. “So here we are. But the kindness that’s shown to me by doctors as well as my family and my friends, it’s really saved my life.”
When I saw this so many thoughts and feelings hit me. The first thought was that so many people suffer in silence. The stigma attached to Mental Health combined with the possibility of judgment and being seen as weak causes many people to not get the help they need. It is very encouraging for me to see Celebrities coming out to society and raising their hand to state how they have a Mental Illness and either are or continuing to work through it, is giving me hope. It gives me hope that individuals will see that there is no shame in getting help and that YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Celebrities must deal with judgment on a larger scale than most of us have to and to see them stepping out and using their platform to admit, “Yes I have a Mental Illness and Yes it is OK to seek help,” is refreshing. I have said it many times, in my previous blogs as well, that Mental Illness DOES NOT discriminate. It is alright to want to be better and do better and get that extra help to help you get to that place. If you are reading this I want you to know that if you are struggling in silence because you are afraid of being judged or looked down upon and that has deterred you from seeking help STOP….RIGHT NOW..Reach OUT. Life is too short to go through everyday not being 100 percent and being miserable. There is help out there that can help you heal and learn to cope with the traumatic event in your life as well learn how to stop allowing your past to guide you but You guide your past.
One thing I want you to get out of reading this and I am pleading with you is if you are suffering in silence with depression, anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, or any other mental Illness SEEK OUT HELP.
There are so many options out there for you to not reach out because all in all HELP is HEALING.
